The key to umbrella girls is just an addition of the F1 philosophy of bringing the fans as close to the action as possible. One of the coolest results of this feature has been the Grid and Pit Walks during the event on weekends. On Saturday, between qualifying sessions, all audience are invited to walk on the pits in a chance to see where all the pit action happens. The garages are roped of as crews are usually in the middle of working their setups. But the fans can still get within feet of the cars and are greeted by the team models in a chance for photos, autographs, freebies from team sponsors.
